winch on my 65 4x4

Hello all,

there was a winch mounted on my 65 4x4. I never heard of the brand and i was curious if anyone on here knows anything about it. I Googled it with little luck.

The brand of the winch is Koenig Iron Works made in Huston texas

It is a PTO powered winch with a cable controled PTO

Thanks,

Sam

PTO winches are great!
They are typically underrated and will probably pull twice what it says it will.

so I did some work research and found this link it is about the winch kinda interesting that the winch dates back to the early 1950's and was used mostly on jeeps, I wonder how it found its way on my 65 4x4...

this looks like the one ive seen on numerous Jeeps, and i had one on a 72 Dodge W200 Power Wagon.....its rated 8000 lbs, and holds 150 feet of 5/16" cable.......Look at some Jeep forums, you should be able to find more info!

That and the operators position is the reason they are also known as "Widowmakers".
They require a lot of common sense to use safely.

im still on the fence keeping this on the truck I might just replace it with a electric winch. And use the PTO for something else like on board air

The pto on my 46' also runs the dump hydro
So make sure you place drum in neutral if used for other things

I might just remove the PTO as a whole considering I dont know anything about it.

The data plate that was attached is no longer there.

The only issue I have about that is I dont have the plate that would cover the hole on the transfer case once the PTO is removed

Hi Bob

The winch you have will be a 12000 lbs winch on the 1st layer

It should hold up to 145 feet of ½ inch cable in 4 layers, but might have more I run a 8000 lbs (recommended length 145 feet) but with 200 feet on the drum.

Depending if it is a mechanically or hydraulic winch the linespeed will be between:

Mechanically:
31 fpm (1st layer) and 53 fpm (4th layer) with 900rpm on the input shaft.

Hydraulic:
12 fpm (1st layer) and 20 fpm (4th layer) with a flow og 15GPM. Could properly be different, depending on the hydraulic pump and motor

Gearing will be 32:1

If you need parts, please give me a call

Lars

To the OP, if your truck has the Dana 24 T-case, from what ive heard the D24 PTO assemblies are somewhat rare, sought after and possibly valuable......If you choose to remove all the PTO stuff, its probably something that you can sell/trade easily.....
