A few days ago, I was driving my truck ('94 f150 XL) and when I would hit the brake pedal the pedal would start pulsating and the pedal would go to the floor and the truck would almost not stop. Got it home, pulled the front wheels, and saw the front pads were wore down pretty good, rotors seemed good, no grooves or anything like that. Replaced the pads, bled the system, and the pedal still goes all the way to the floor, it barely stops, and I can hear the front pads making a slight screeching/grinding. So I bled them again, this time getting all the old fluid out and waiting until new fluid came out of the bleeder. Nothing changed. Got under the truck, looked for leaks, checked all the rubber hoses, everything looked good, the rubber hydraulic hoses in the front are newer. Not too great on troubleshooting brake systems, but I'm thinking maybe I have a bad master cylinder? Not sure, but I don't want to start throwing parts at it.
Well new MC went in today, problem still persists. Bench bleeding went great, installed and bled the brakes again, no change at all. It feels like all my stopping power is in the rear, the front pads just sound like they are scraping against the rotors - brand new pads. While I was underneath it again I double checked everything for leaks even though the fluid level was the same and found nothing. Don't know what to check for next...
sounds like your proportioning valve is stuck so your only getting pressure to rear of truck. Are you getting much fluid out of front brakes when bleeding?.Open a rear brake bleeder stomp brake pedal down hard tighten rear bleeder then try bleeding front brakes. Also make sure your rear brakes are adjusted up good.
Hmmm
Could be the proportion valve. But does it have a switch in it to light up if its stuck one way.
Are you sure that the hoses are good.
Ok. How about this. With the truck off, how does the pedal feel. It should push decent once then stiffen up. Could the brake booster be bad.
Also, did you bleed the brakes with it running or turned off. They should be bled with it running to get full travel from the pedal.
