Memorial Day

To all the Veterans and families of our Fallen Heroes who gave their last full measure to our country I want to say Thank you and that service and sacrifice is remembered, honored, and recognized.

Have a good day and Thank You!

I was looking for this post, to contribute to. I have started enough of my own...

All around the world there are monuments of many kinds - testimony to brave and selfless acts of pure courage. Our own are scattered everywhere, it seems.
The globe knows no surface where American fighting men and women have not stood or fallen, standing fast in the face of opponents of all sorts

There are remnants to be found from the jungles of New Guinea, to the sands of the middle east.

Mute testimony to the hearts and minds of a people who will never be bound by aggressors of any description!

And side by side in places, with others from like minded nations...

Today is no day of celebration, nor of mourning, but one of re-affirmation:
That freedom and liberty shall never be taken away!!!

WE STAND, and always will

Well I took the one veteran I know, my 87 year Dad, to the ceremony on the Hornet at 1pm in the afternoon. He then had me over to his place along with my wife and his 4 year old grandson for a BBQ of ribs, burgers, corn on the cob and a couple of beers.

Before he started to cook he took out the play doh and sat down with his grandson for 1 1/2 hours. Then when he started to the BBQ my son went out with him to help. He showed him how to use the tongs and the spatula to flip a burger.

I watched from the patio door and was very glad and sad at the same time. Glad cause my son gets to be with his grand dad, but sad because he is so young he won't get to grow up with his grand dad like his much older nephews and niece.

He enjoyed it a lot since earlier he called up his best buddy from his outfit from 1944-46 like he usually does now and then. They spent 2 solid years together while in the Pacific. The wife answered and told my dad that his buddy had taken a fall and hit his head. He had surgery to relieve pressure but he lost his memory. Didn't remember my dad or their time in the Army. You could tell this hit home hard for him as he is the only one left with the memories all to himself now.

Set them down in print, if you can...

I see that you appreciate the old Grumman birds, so history and it's importance is not lost on you
