Question Check Engine Light

I have a 1990 Ford Bronco II, 2.9L V6, 4 wheel drive. My question is my check engine light is coming on and stays on until the engine is turned off. My Dad and I have been trying to figure out why the light is coming on. We have taken readings and it keeps giving us the code of 41. So that tells us that it was the oxygen sensor so we replaced it. However, this did not fix the problem. Next my Dad replaced my spark plugs, spark plug wires, rotor, and distributor cap. This didn't make a difference either. So he changed oil recently and changed the oil filter and replaced my fuel filter. Even with all these new parts my Bronco II's check engine light is still coming on. It only comes on after going for 5-7 miles down the road and won't go off until you shut the vehicle off! Oh and not to forget we put Sea Foam into the gas tank thinking it could be a leaking fuel injector but I have already had to get more gas so that has gone through and has not helped either. So if anyone can tell me what else we can look into or can tell me the problem please let me know. Thank-you.

Check Engine Light

Cherck the wiring, this ECU is not detecting any switching of voltage. The O2 wiring on the 2.9L engines gets burned by the exhaust.

The wires of the oxygen sensor are strapped to the Automatic Transmission tube filler. They could not be burnt because this is a new oxygen sensor that was just put in. Any other ideas?

after you are certain that the o2 sensor is good and the wiring from the o2 sensor to the ecu is good, you should check the other players in determining mixture. the map sensor is the big one as far as computer sensors. also check for low fuel pressure at the rail. It also might be worthwhile to go to the library and see if they have a good manual (Mitchell) which will contain "pinpoint" tests for every code that will point you in other directions.

Try disconnecting the neg battery lead or resetting your computer memory & start again. Your code 41 may be locked into memory.
You didn't say how the truck was running so I guess that it was ok, yes? Good luck !

Just another note. The light will go off after you pull off the side of the road and turn it off. Once you start the vehicle again the light stays off until you go about 5-7 miles down the road and then it will come back on again. Could the temperature sensor have something to do with the light coming on?

Send me an email and ask for pinpoint test H, it's the Ford procedure for diagnosing a code 41.
