Mike can "personalize" the tunes to your driving style and what you want exactly. high shift points, O/D kicking in later (60mph) and i'm sure there are some air/fuel mix changes..ect i dont know the in's and outs exactly but there are huge differences in how the truck feels with the 3 different tunes.
the economy tune is worthless to me, made the truck feel SO lethargic and slow. i could only handle it for a very short period of time.
Hmmmm
Now you got me thinking. I wonder what the difference is between say my 87 performance tune and your 87 performance tune? I really like the idea of the OD kicking in a little later. It seems to already do that with the tow tune but not so much with the performance tune. I wonder if I can get the specifics on my tunes from Mike and maybe make a few minor tweaks? Did it cost you any extra for the "custom tunes"?

when i ordered my tuner i made my request's then. no extra charge to do so.
i've also had issues with a tune and he messed with it and emailed me a new one to see if it fixed said issue. Mike is great to work with and will be glad to help!
So tempted to do this but a little apprehensive. The only experience I've had with a tuner on a gas vehicle was an old 1996 Dodge 360.. and pretty much the only thing it did was require me to run premium and it got worse MPG. The rest of my tuner experience is on diesels, a Cummins and a VW TDI and with those it's like a night and day difference.. AND you get better MPG.
What I would be interested in is a little bump in performance while towing (which is only on occasion) and then the economy tune when we are traveling.
I actually emailed Mike a while back but didn't hear anything back. So I sort of lost interest. We are heading out west next month and I started thinking about it again for the economy tune.
how do you guys switch between tunes? Could you leave it in eco mode then swap over to other modes when towing, going up grades, etc?
No , to change tunes you have to turn the vehicle off hook up the tuner and follow the directions on the screen. It takes about 5 minutes to change tunes..

That`s what I do. I run the Eco tune daily, then I run the Tow tune when towing. the perf. tune is rarely run, but is fun when programmed! it`s very easy to switch between tunes, but can`t be done on the fly.
You are definaty not going to see the same gains that are had on a diesel but they are noticeable especially when towing. The transmission changes are most noticeable.
I have not seen any gains on fuel mileage in Eco tune so I just run it in 87 performance.
I saw a very small gain in 87 performance. Like 1mpg
Heck if econo mod turns it into a dog even better. I'm a cheap ******* and drive like a grandma but my wife has a on/off right foot. Always either accelerating or braking. Wonder if econo mod would help that 6mpg driving style...
I'm not gonna swear on my kids life that its accurate but when I bought the truck the truck showed 11.5 avg for the first 6 months. 60 days after programming with 87 performance it went to 12.5 avg and has been there ever since.
Oh and you're not gonna hurt my feelings telling me "you" don't think I gained 1mpg or not.
I didn't buy the tune for mpg I bought it for towing.
I have gained 2mpg and I have/ use a heavy foot on the go pedal with the perf tune.
Most of that was gained with the combination of the long tube headers and the tune, but man can it pick up and go. Even when already driving, the X can pick up and go much easier.
I had the tunes and y pipe initially from 5 star and did notice an improvement in all perf like said above. Then the necessary evil of the broken studs pushed me to the headers, and upgraded tunes for the new mods. Wakes it up even more.
Did you adjust the user options to get better performance? I've been toying with mine and I have noticed a bit of a difference, but I'm just wondering what settings I should be at to achieve maximum performance.
