Trailer wireing

Hey guys, I have a 77 F350 I believe it's a factory cab and chassis. any way flat bed been building my own hitch on the back last couple days and got me to thinking about a 7 way plug for a trailer. What is the perfected way to do it? Just splice into the rear taillights? I'm thinkn more how a modern vehicle is set up with the trailer on its own circuit

Try to post of pic off new rear hitch later

For a small trailer with rear turn/stop lights only, I just spliced mine to the tail light circuit. A setup as shown in the link would be better and probably necessary if the trailer has running lights or multiple tail lights. The controler is basically as set of relays hoked to the taillight circuit and draws power directly from the battery for the trailer lights.
