I have been experiencing a tapping/clanking vibration coming from under my feet when making a left turn. I have also experienced the same vibration when towing my boat and slowing down at slow speeds roughly around 10-20 mph. Any ideas what it might be? I have tried to listen for it but the engine is too loud to hear over. Any advice?
What year is your truck? And how many miles are on it? It could be any number of things. Does it make a clunk noise going from park to reverse or reverse to drive or drive to reverse? Could be worn out u-joints in either driveline or front axle shafts, center carrier bearing or worn parts in the suspension/ steering components ie: ball joints, tie rod ends, track bar bushings.
04' 250, King Ranch. 51k on the truck. I did put str8 pipes on the truck and have gotten the EGR delete done. The noise only happens when turning left at lower speeds. Nothing in reverse. I just got the truck inspected in maryland about 2 weeks ago and was told nothing was wrong. Any idea?
When they inspect them they don't check everything that was mentioned here so I would start with those items. When you get inspected here in Utah about all they do is pull a front and rear tire and check the brake linings and unless they find something obvious they pass it.
Check the shocks and mounting bolts, about 1month ago I had a wierd noise ended up being the heater plug hitting the bumper the wind would catch it just right and I heard it thru out the whole truck. Drove me NUTS
That's why this forum is so awesome. I'm having the same problem after having my exhaust replaced. Only happens when turning hard left at slow speeds. I knew my ball joints were on their way out, but the downpipe and/or new exhaust hangers make more sense when considering the timing of it.
Clunks and rattles can come from binding in the track bar, universal joints or a hanger for the exhaust as in this picture. Mine rubbed on the frame rail by the transfer case, so I cut it back. Stock down pipes are 3", mine is a 3.5" down. 4" requires a little wiggle room, check the cab pinch joints and your pipe.
Ended up being the exhaust down pipe hitting when turninig left. Problem fixed itself when i cut the cat and muffler off and str8 piped it. I guess the exhaust pipe had be out of alignment when the previous owner put the cat and muffler back on for the inspection. Rides great now and sounds like a dam jet engine now!
