I know if you can afford a 35k-40k truck you most likely don't mind spending 100$ on weather techs or another custom fit mat. I on the other hand refuse to spend that on mats. I mean I want to protect my carpet and I use weather/water proof mats year round since most my driving is done in logger boots. Here on the northeast the elements are pretty unforgiving all year round. This is what I've been doing for years. I pick up some vinyl banners from the pro desk at Home Depot or where ever. I prefer milwaukee, dewalt, greenlee, or Klein. (Tool snob) I wrap my original carpeted mats and use stainless staples on the backside. Consider it custom vinyl upholstery. Lol. I actually like the look. They are 100% waterproof and cheap and easy. I do it once a year. Be honest , what do u think?
You said "Be honest". They look stupid. There's nothing to contain the water or whatever that gets on them, so the area between the mat and the door will get looking bad. Why would you not pay for some good mats?
Haha. I thought this would be most people's opinions. Lol. I'm cheap , what can I say. I work the trades and surf year round. So salt/water and grime are constant in my cab. I keep my 03 mint. Your right they don't contain anything. But they don't soak up anything either. A little armor all n im good to go. I hate the universal mats that fit anything but dont fit anything right. I love these things and they do everything I need them to do. Plus they match my milwaukee multimeters I have in my drivers door. Lol. No joke.
Personally, I wouldn't go the route you have as they look like a temporay fix until you find the right floormat.
If you are a true "tool snob" ... you know the value of keeping your tools clean and in good working condition. I'm surprised that mindset wouldn't spill over to the most expensive tool you own ... your truck. ~ Bugjr ~
OK, now for a little constructive criticism. My opinion on the looks does not matter. It is your truck. If you like them then make yourself happy.
BUT
From a functional standpoint I would like to point out something. In looking at the picture, first look at the throttle pedal. It's dirty. The driver walks in mud and gets in the truck.
Now, focus on the rug between the mat and the driver's seat. See that same shade of brown staining the carpet? Now look at the section of rug between the floor mat and the door sill, up towards the kick panel. See that same brownish stain?
That indicates that the mud and crud from your boots is not staying with the mat, but going off into the rug. I suspect this is because you are using a material that is somewhat slick (the plastic banner). A carpet mat will hold the mud in one spot. The rubber or plastic mats with the channels do an even better job of keeping the crud off of the door-to-door carpet.
Okay you guys are right you almost have me contemplating on going out and buying husky liners. And yes I am married and by the way my wife doesn't care she would only see me buying husky liners as three Nail appointments she could've had. Lol. My daughter loves them and my son is only 14 weeks old he doesn't even know what a floor mat is. I love this forum and it has been very helpful over the past few years I've solved a lot of serious issues from posts and responses from all you guys. But it is fun to have a good time with it every once in a while like this. Maybe I'll find one guy on here that actually likes them or thought it was a good idea but I won't hold my breath. Lol. I love them. Keep it coming fellas. Here's another shot so u can see how they coordinate with other stuff. Lol. Now that I see it , itlooks like a milwaukee rep vehicle. I coulda wrapped the whole truck in weather techs for the price of those meters. Lol.
weathertech are the worst floor mats you can get. They are a hard thin plastic that is slippery when wet and slides all over the place if not held down. I have a 2010 f150 super crew, got Aries front mats which are 100000000X better than weathertech. They are thicker, heavier, real rubber vs the rear weathertech I have which is thin plastic slippery crap. It slid around and rolled up whenever my dogs jumped in on it until I installed my underseat storage box which holds it in place. I will never buy another crap weathertech product ever. the ford factory rubber mats are better than weathertech, and at half the price.
