Lately we've seen what passes for a rash of tragedies, we're all affected at least in empathy----wouldn't it be nice if there were a way to collectively, under the FTE banner so to speak, contribute something financially?
Perhaps if its not too complex someone could set up a fund, we all contribute whatever we can or would and after a time that amount be sent to the local Red Cross or other agency on the scene?
I'd be more than willing to toss something in via PayPal----might be something to consider. Every little bit would help I'm sure.
And certainly prayers to those so recently affected!
There won't be any sort of a collective fund raiser here on FTE, but anyone who wishes to contribute to the agency of their choice is certainly encouraged to do so
As horrific as most of the images we're seeing are, there are some which give hope:
Just a quick hijack for a PSA...if you're considering traveling to the area to help, make sure you are SELF-SUPPORTED! This means take your own fuel, food and water especially, but be ready to sleep in your vehicle or take camping gear. I know someone who works for FEMA (he's actually a famous musician's stepfather), and this comes straight from him. If you are not self-supportive, you contribute to the problem by being a drain on resources and logistics of fuel, food and water delivery.
Now, for my own two bits: if you have any inkling to give, give to a reputable private charity/organization. I'd like to see events like this not need the mobilization of FEMA and Uncle Sam's resources...
Not sure if The American Red Cross is a gov't or private relief agency but overall its reputation as being well run and highly effective seems quite high.
With the USA's ability to strike enemy targets seemingly in a moment its too bad we can't bring that same sense of urgency to those within our borders.
Steve is right about bright spots in this and any other tragedy-----hats off to the first responders!
