Hello Ladies and Gentalmen i have a 87 F150 Short bed i have two choice's i have a 75 250 HB it has a Dana 44 in front And a Dana 60 in rear , or i have a 9 inch rear and a solid front end with C bushings there still to much snow to get that front end yet to tell what it is friend hit moose and tore truck to peices got whole truck for case of Bud Lite ! So here's what i want to do is swap to the rear and front in 87 cause the rear puk's out of pinon and i rather has a solid front end ! the 250 has springs the 150 has Coil spring and shock. My 87 has a dual shock and coil spring front. And the rear i have a 4 inch and 2 inch block welded to springs with sway bar. So i dont know witch way to go or the lesser of two evel's ? Any thoughts or have anyone tried to tackle oh im looking to put a 390 stroker !
The coil spring front axle will be a bolt in deal if you have a parts truck. The rear axle may need the spring and shock perches moved a bit, but if you can weld and use a tape measure then it shouldn't be a problem.
That said, I would see if the factory 8.8" axle you have has the same gear ratio as the dana 44 you plan to swap in as it is a more desirable axle. This would also save you from having to weld up new shock and spring mounts.
I'm having a little trouble deciphering your post but if I understand right the rig with the 9" has a solid axle (most likely a D44). The coil spring 44 damn near bolts in like factory and the 9" is slightly stronger than your 8.8. The 44/60 combo is slightly better in some ways but will require a switch to leaves up front or fabbing coil brackets on the axle.
If it were me I'd go with the 8 lug stuff and convert to coils.
