I recently bought a 2000 F550 crew cab and it has a Vanair Split Shaft compressor on it. Its an odd set up. There is a driveshaft coming out of the 4R100 trans(2 wheel drive) that goes to the compressor and then a shaft comming out of that going to the rearend. I think the bearings are starting to go in the compresser unit so I'm trying to get ideas on what a good donor vehical would be for a new shaft. There is an 04 crew cab long bed 2 wheel drive and a 00 E350 Bus being parted out in the area. If the wheel base is the same, I believe mine is 176, would the drive shafts work of do you have any other suggestions? I'm not that interested in spending 1000 dollars on a driveshaft.
So I just made an album. I'm assuming that you are a little better at navigating the site then I am so I'm sure you will find it. As for what drives it I'm not exactly sure. It has a pto attached to the unit as well. Ive never seen anything like it. To engage the compressor you first shift the transmission into drive then back to park hit the pto and the parking brake then shift it back into drive. It makes no sense but thats what the manufactur instructions say to do.
