Dual Tensioner Mod

Yesterday I noticed that my grooved idler pulley, is on its last legs. I figured that I would go ahead and do the dual tensioner mod, while I was in there. From my understanding with this mod, the lower grooved idler pulley is deleted. Just was hoping to get some first hand advice on if this is true, and what everyone thought of the mod. My truck has the 8 rib idler/belt if that matters.

Thanks ya'll.

The TSB is 98-23-14. I suggest using only Ford / Motorcraft parts so you don't have to do it twice. Well worth it IMHO.

Yeah I was planning on it. I figured since my idler is bad I may as well just do the mod now. The lower pass side idler is eliminated right? I assume since the boss on the bracket is cut down.

The TSB species that the grooved idler is no longer needed. I am assuming that they are referencing the one on the passenger side, low point. This would make sense with the boss being cut down and then having that second tensioner pulley. Just want to make sure I have everything I need coming.

IIRC, when I did it, I got a stock superduty idler, a dual tensioner, and a new belt.

I've got 3 brand new belts here, plus the one on my truck. So I too was disappointed there. But yeah, it takes a longer belt, pn# escapes me at the moment. Should be in the TSB pertaining to the issue.

My next question is that I hope the new belt I am purchasing will fit when I upgrade to the IH water pump.
