I have a '93 F150 4 x 4 with the 5.0 and auto, 82,000 miles. The truck starts well, idles and runs smoothly. I have noticed that when going up a hill while accelerating, the a/c vents seem to shut off. After I clear the top of the hill and I'm going downhill, they come back on. This makes me think the truck doesn't have enough vacuum to keep the vent doors open, but I don't have any evidence of a vacuum leak. Anyone have any experience with this or suggestions?
Thanks,
Plaidad

Sounds like your cacuum reservoir or the vacuum line to it might be leaking. The reservoir would be a black ball with a vacuum line to it mounted somewhere near the firewall. This supplies vacuum for your A/C blend doors during low engine vacuum conditions. Check when that happens and you'll probably find that the air is coming out of the defrost vents.
On that year of truck, the HVAC vacuum reservoir is glued to the side of the evaporator cover, facing the R exhaust manifold with silver insulation on it.
I am troubleshooting the same problem. After reseating the lines on the manifold, at the selector, and the vent actuator, it seems to have been resolved. What is the correct way to troubleshoot a vacuum leak, and what vaccuum reading should one see at different points of acceleration.
