2002 7.3 PSD oil filter

This truck is new to me. I will be changing the oil for the 1st time.
This truck has 2 oil filters in series, I'm guesing after market.
Question ? Should i stick with that or go back to the stock ford oil filter.

can you get a pic?

sounds like it may be a bypass setup.

It's hard to get 2 oil filters inline. There will be one, clearly attached to the engine, and if it has a bypass filter, there will be hoses off the original filter housing to it, and be a single filter, not double. If the twin filters you're talking about are further back, it may be fuel.

If you can't upload a pic, what numbers are on the filters.

As far as what filter to use, just do to a fleetguard store and cross reference the filter numbers that are there already. Lots of people like Baldwin filters, I use the stock fl1995 filter when I can, and my bypass setup uses that same thread so I can use stock filter in a jam.

There are a lot if filter cross references online, you can check there also.
I'd just get a parts store to cross reference the filters for you and just replace then both. Why make it more complicated trying to return it to stock when its bit a big deal to keep what you have.

Yes there are 2 hoses off the original filter housing that run to the 2 filters i was referring to. I'll get the #s off them and pick them up at the supply house.

Thanks for your help.

Does it looks something like this:

If so that is an Amsoil set up. Not bad but I would just remove it and run the FL1995. For the money you can't beat the motorcraft filter for these engines.

So it still has the original filter on the engine, AND the twin filters...
I think the Amsoil filters use smaller threads then oem filter, so yeah, just get a parts store to cross reference it and be done with it.

Personally I would just go back to the single stock filter. Nothing oil related ever happens with motors anymore as long as you just change it when you should.

Heads up guys. I was at NAPA yesterday and they have filters 50% off. I bought five out the door for about $58.

More filtration is rarely a bad thing. I would keep the system.

I would imagine it could be if you are reducing flow because of the filters.

I honestly just see it as an added maintenance cost that doesn't need to be.

Your bypass filters only get changed once a year.
My engine oil and filter are every 16k according to my oil analysis from Schaeffer.
Bypass don't use much oil from the system. Only a little oil at a time go through it, and when its clogged, it doesn't hurt the engine because the oil going to the bypass filters is "extra"

That depends on how they were set up. The system I posted a picture replaces the factory filter with the remote filters. One is a bypass and one is a full flow.

When I was looking at the Amsoil bypass setup it wasn't replacing the original filter, just adding another one.
Why someone would remove the stock filter and relocate it is beyond me, because its protected really well. I have mine with a shutoff to the feed side, and filter along the frame not hanging down like those. My truck doesn't go offroad anywhere that it can be damaged, but you never know.
Weird that the Amsoil one you posted removed the stock filter. I can't say I've seen that on a diesel. Only gasjobs
