PLEASE HELP! i DRIVE A 1999 FORD EXPLOER AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND KEEPS FLASHING I COUNTED 56 THE LAST TIME. IT HAS BEEN RUNNING RICH AND IS SLUGGISH.I AM A SINGLE MOM AND I KNOW A LITTLE ABOUT CARS ENOUGH TO THINK IT MAYBE FUEL RELATED OR SPARK PLUGGS PLEASE HELP DOES ANYONE KNOW THE CODES

I have a friend that said that GM and Chrysler's check engine light will flash so all you do is count the flashes and that is the trouble code. Is there any way for me to get the check engine light to just flash a code on Fords? What do you think it might be? Thanks for the reply by the way.

I have a '99, & I had the check engine light come on as well. Don't remember what it flashed, but I had the same symptoms you describe. The problem was detemined to be my intake manifolds - seems they are plastic with O ring gaskets. I had to have them replaced, & it's been fine since.
