well i have 180,000 miles on my 90 with the 4.9. i think the man i bought it from said he just had the radiator flushed before i bought it, that was with 103,000 miles on it. im in arizona where the temps are now getting to 110 + and with AC and automatic my thinking it might be cheap insurance to buy a new radiator. its starting to run a little above the 1/2 way mark. thoughts.
Just get a new one from rockauto. I'd be worried about the plastic drain plug being broken from the heat. Cheap insurance like you said. Don't want to get stranded in the hot summer sun if you can afford a new rad.
Put an auxiliary auto trans cooler on it while you have it apart, cheap insurance. route it to the radiator like stock, and then to the cooler, then back so it uses both coolers in series.
with so many parts these days being of such poor quality, i have to wonder whether you are ahead of the game buying a new rad over one that is still working fine . i'm hoping that a guy from a radiator shop will chime in on this one.
my thoughts exactly. sure you get a life time warranty but what good does that do when your stuck on the side of the road. next time i go for a nice summer after noon ride im taking my lazer temp and ill see what the temp is when the gauge reads little over half.
