Trailer Wire / Brake Controller freebies!

Today, I was given a brake controller, 7-way plug and about 15 ft of wiring to connect it all together.

My question: Where's the best place to run the 7 wire bundle to? I was just going to get a rear light harness from the junk yard and wire it all together, sort of a "plug-n-play" style. Would this work? Is there one rear plug or two?

The reason I want to hook it up instead of one of the T-connectors is because I've been known to tow different types of trailers, some with 4 pin and some with 7. Plus generally you can get a 7-way pin adapter to fit most types of trailer light connectors. So i figured 7-way flat was pretty universal.

I am sure there is a plug and play out there that taps into your tail lights harness. 4 flat powers just lights, 7 pin adds elec brake power requirement.

I know the difference. I know there is a kit for 4pin but not 7.

Didn't mean for it to sound like you didn't know, ok? I am not a trailer wiring guru either, lucky my neighbor does all mine.

If I was home I would go look at my 78, its wired with a new style big round 7 pin and a flat 4 and a old round style 6 pin.

I'd say any camper and or stock trailer sales/service place can help you out.

Or follow the top L/H pic and tie in accordingly.

I like to use a 7-pin just because it is a lot easier to plug in/out and looks a lot cleaner (don't have that 4 pin pigtail always hanging off the back of the truck.)
