Since you have to pull the tank, why not weld the leak(s), weld a patch from some 18 gauge sheetmetal over the vent hole and be done.

Since you have a vented cap already (and if the current tank is too far gone to weld it), get a new non-vented tank. Less moving parts to worry about.

But, that's just my opinion.

Evaporative Emission: Unleaded fuel, non vented fuel cap, charcoal canister located on frame rail below alternator.

Evap/Em fuel vapor valve located in top of tank. Vapor hose routes along right frame rail from vapor valve to valve on charcoal canister.

Corrogated paper hose routes from valve on canister to elbow on air cleaner.

Valve available from Ford and auto parts stores.

If UT requires smog test, verify valve is necessary before plugging hole.

ok so got new tank no Evap/Em fuel vapor valve installed easy.
BUT it started building pressure in the tank creating fuel spray out of cap when opened on occasion but mostly just pressure.
picked up a new stant 10574 fuel cap now i am getting fuel drip out of cap inspected it rubber seal is shot after a month.
bad cap? yea probably. but why am i pushing fuel out and were there diffrent size filler necks?

ps no issues whal driving
only had problems starting when i used gas from a station that just found water in there tanks and had them "flushed" glad i didnt fill up

Evaporative Emission: Unleaded fuel, non vented fuel cap.

Back then there were two different sizes of gas station nozzles. Nozzle used with leaded gas was larger in diameter than used with unleaded.

Lead in gas melted charcoal in Evap/Em canisters (and catalytic converters).

Fuel filler tube used with unleaded gas had a restrictor...that would not allow a leaded gas nozzle to fit in.

Note: Hot weather causes gas to expand, so don't fill the tank all the way or some will spit out once the cap is removed.

ok so in that case a unleaded cap would not fit a leaded neck so its not that my neck is to big its just fail cap is there a more reliable brand something that's made last year or 2 maybe or a way to try and save rubber cause pepboys only had 2 in warehouse stock so my return will get me same problem i believe
