The 6th Annual Mid Atlantic FTE Meet - 2013 All Trucks Nationals, Aug 2nd - 4th Carlisle, PA

Numbers were defiantly down. Hell. I had 2 of the 4 trucks in my class.
That really nice "show" bronco was confused as to why he was put in a PICKUP class. He had to go a BEG to be moved to SUV, but they still put him in with "STREET" trucks, not Modified. And of course he got 1st.
My 2 trucks placed 3rd and last. The last place(dually) is the nicer of the 2 truck I entered. And I am not just saying that because I redid the dually, but because it is. I LOVE my white/blue truck more than anything, but the dually is nicer. As for 1st and second place trucks. 1st had a scaly frame that was undercoated to TRY and hide it. It didn't work. it also had visible RUST blisters on the cab corners and fenders. The 2nd place truck again had a Scaly frame and undercoated to TRY and hide it and didnt do the job. Also, that truck was done about 5-6 years ago and the massive amount of stone chips with the wrong color touch up makes it plainly obvious.
here is what I sent Carlisle
To Whom it May Concern:
As the largest truck show on the east coast, I held the Carlisle Truck Show in high regard. I have experienced many truck shows, of all shapes and sizes over the years from local charity shows to this, a national truck event. Throughout my experience, I have had my trucks judged a multitude of ways. Unfortunately after your event this year I'm left extremely frustrated with your judging system. I am not alone in this thinking and this was more evident than years prior. I am writing this to request review of your processes.
I have attended your event over the last few years, and each year I have become more disappointed and frustrated with the judging procedures at your event. As a national truck show with thousands of registrants, the largest show on the east coast, I would hope your judging and scoring system would be more structured, unbiased and better organized.
My experience this year, and in years prior, is that your judges are under qualified or not properly assigned for their skill set. Within my class, I entered two trucks, each was scored and judged by a different person, within a class of less than 5 trucks. How can there be so many judges for one, very small truck class? For the amount of money paid for event registration and spectators, I would expect that the money would go toward qualified personnel to judge.
There needs to be some sense of unbiased score system, not randomized individuals, that take into account, spectator comments or trash talking the competition. Multiple judges would be great, if each was assigned a specific category or area of expertise to examine. For example, a qualified body technician to oversee paint/body work, and a chassis specialists for the frame and suspension. These are just examples, you can go multiple steps further with each category or leave it as plain and simple as that. Another route would be a scoring rubric, but this should be created and approved by individuals that work on, admire, and are passionate about trucks. Score sheets should be readily available to participants in order to keep the judging as honest/fair as a possible and room for improvement on categories that are lacking, where points were lost. One final way, would be to have a single individual who has expertise within the brand and class review all vehicles, so that when inquiries are made about why a decision was made, participants would be provided that information with ease.
I am very particular and extremely critical when it comes to judging my work. I recognize that my trucks are in no way flawless and would expect nothing but constructive, qualified feedback. Any owner should take stock in that criticism, and strive for perfection if they have not achieved it.
This year I entered two trucks of the four trucks entered in the R315 class. Each of my trucks, entry 101 and entry 102, were judged by different individuals. I was awarded third place with one of my trucks. Upon being told this, I inquired about which vehicle won and was told it was the F350,both of my trucks were. At the time, no one could advise which truck won and after being told to come back in 30 minutes, I was told it was truck 101. Your first place winner, had visible rot on their truck, your second place winner had a scaly frame that was far from smooth. The two trucks I brought, I hoped based on their similar qualities and workmanship, would have placed one behind the other (truck 102 and 101). Truck 102 was restored within the past six months and has a very pristine(body, frame, suspension, interior) with many custom features. Its engine is pretty clean, but not perfect. Truck 101 is almost an all original truck, with some bolt ons. While the body and paint look nice, they are not as nice as 102. The frame and suspension is clean, but is it 17 years old. The interior is pristine. Now, by those descriptions, you would think that 102 would of placed higher than 101. However based on this weekends judging, 101 beat 102.
I'm not not disgruntled or looking for any revised placings. I'm not asking for an apology or for any special accommodations. I am asking that your system be reviewed and revised. I'm simply looking for the money I have invested in my registrations be used to secure a qualified, educated and unbiased judge or judging panel. I expect that if nothing else, my concerns be reviewed and should you decide not to make changes, I wish you the best but I will not return to your show and will advise other registrants who have pride in their vehicles to consider doing the same.
Thanks again,
Brad E. Raube

Brad - the one thing that irked me about judging in my class (97-present) was visible coaching from one of the judges to one specific competitor. I was parked next to a SD that was driven by a woman also competing in the bikini contest (she was very proud to let us all know that too). One of the judges was apparently her friend and was giving her all kinds of tips and pointers on how to improve her score. I actually had to ask one of the other judges (appeared to be a more senior individual who looked a bit irritated by the goings on when he saw it) if the young lady would be judging our class for fairness purposes. That shouldn't be either. Fortunately, we did have a different judge.
I finished mid-pack of my class (7th or so out of 15 if I recall right), appropriate for what I have compared to others so no complaint that way. I just didn't care for the "coaching" at all. As a competitor, you should know what you have to do well before you get there, and have it done aside from touch up cleaning.
I had some visible scale in my rear fenderwells that I got rid of before the show...can't believe a first place truck actually had rusty cab corners...wow.

You would think at a NATIONAL event, they would be better and more professional.
At least at OK4WDs show, they have at least 2 judges in each class judging in their area of expertise. That way one judge cannot sway the vote

Brad, I was able to see my judging sheet on sunday. I had place 3rd in the SUV class. On the sheet they had interior, engine, body, paint, undercarriage. each one you were graded from 0 being poor and 15 best. top score anyone can get was a 75. I got a 15 in every category but engine... And I got a 12 in that which puts me at 72 and placed 3rd... I know my engine isn't the best being a street driven daily diesel But I know it was better then the 2 that placed 1st and 2nd. I two am scratching my head on the way they are judging. Both of your trucks are VERY nice. I really liked the dually. Hopefully they will get a clue.
