Ok.. I know there is much info out there, but i just cant find the right answer:
My fuel bowl has been leaking for quiet some time.I had to JB weld the bottom of it ( it rotted out) and replace all rings. Now after a while i have a leak on the lid, as there is too much pressure. ( tried everything to re-seal it)
What i would like to do is , go to tracktor supply and buy me an external filter and re-do my system. I can not afford a whole kit, so i need some info on a cheap but reliable solution. The problem I have is, I am not too familiar with the actual fuel system routing . Do i install the filter before or after the manual Lift pump ? also i heard about the modification on the fuel return. (i can make lines ) . where exactly do i install the additional lines and how are they plumbed. i know i need a regulator and a gauge.. is there anywhere a cheap source for it ?
Any info on parts and maybe a sketch about the system would help.
thanks
This is a good write up . But how do I know if my regulator is still good? I would also like to know on how to do the fuel return mod. Aren't there lines to be added to the back of the heads ? And do they just parallel with the existing lines ? Thanks
Thanks for the help . Does anybody know where I might find a cheap adjustable fuel regulator ? And who sells a gauge ? Not sure if I want to cut the bowl apart ?
Bill (Rebilld) and Todd (tshrager) both have a pretty cheap regulator on their trucks. Todd is online now, maybe he will chime in. I have an aeromotive one, not real cheap.
The link worked for me . Don't I have to be careful and make sure the regulator is rated for diesel ? Thanks guys

I converted to electric fuel and that's the regulator I used. You will also need a '99 electric pump, pre and post pump filters and filter heads, a mount fabricated for the pump and filters, relay, oil pressure switch, some diesel rated fuel injection hose, clamps, some fittings and some wiring. The kits you buy are $800-$1200. If you can weld, you can fab and source out your own parts and do it a lot cheaper. I did mine for less than $350.
looks like i might just be doing the remote filter from tractor supply and the pressure regulator as recommended Rebilld. that at least gets rid of the fuel bowl and keeps the cost down... i need to do injectors and downpipe first before i will do the electric setup i guess. Thanks for all the info.
