Not really too surprising, it's been rumored off and on for years. I never really cared for HP too much...would much rather go to Santa Anita...but it's still kind of sad to see another SoCal institution go away.
As a kid, dad would take us to Santa Anita, and sometimes Del Mar, but I don't think we ever went to Hollywood Park. I maybe wrong, and I can't ask him because he passed away in 2000.
I have been there once for some horse racing, and a number of times for work related events (all the auto manufacturers seem to hire out the carpark for L.A. based launch events) - its almost around the corner from where I work.
It looked like it was an impressive facility back in the day, but the type of crowd it attracted for horse racing was um... not what I expected, and I was not in a rush to go back.
