Well out of no where my running great truck starts to act up. About two weeks ago after the first start up {cold} it ran about 30 seconds and quit like the key shut off. It doesn't do it every time just some, but now the kicker is it has started to do it warm, rolling down the road. Very unexpected every time. It will always crank right back up and never any thing that catches me saying 'hey look here'. Yesterday on a warm start it really had me concerned as it was like I had it in a lope tune, which I do not have. Almost like it was romping, not like the cold start romp, more lopey with no change in the RPM.
I am so new to diesel trucks as this is my first one. I have had it about 18 months.I have changed every fluid in this truck now. OIL has less than 1000 miles on it and is still around the full mark.Changed the CPS out in January with a grey one,the old one had to be the original{I think}. Also did the .50 mod when I changed the glow plugs in January. This truck ran flawless except it was harder to start on the super cold mornings and would belch out the white smoke. This is what made me change the GP's and do the .50 mod and to be honest after that is when it started to act up. I know I need to pull the VC's back off to check things out just have not had the time and am hoping for some insight here.FTE ROCKS
Oh yea truck is 2003 7.3 and she just rolled over on 260,500 miles.
Last oil change I had a UOA done and all looked great{I think}.I will try to attach a copy of that.
If that doesn't do it, I am thinking that you have and ICP sensor going bad. Your symptoms sound like many people who have had those issues. Mine wasn't as bad as you symptoms when mine started but it would shut off at idle.
Thanks for a quick reply. I didnt think ICP would be it. When I first bought this truck it was in kinda bad shape. It had two oil leaks, a fuel and also a coolant leak. The oil issue was a bad ICP and EBPV,both leaking oil. So the ICP is fairly new along with the pig tail being about a year and a half old.
Would the RiffRaff CPS be the same one? It is black and way cheaper than that one?

Last time i tried to order them... i ended up getting refunded because he cant get those black ones anymore.
Your problem seems like cps, icp sensor, or ipr related.
Icp sensors CAN go bad without leaking into the connector... oil on the connector is just one of the more common indicators.
Oil level?
Condition?
How many miles on your oil?
Have you done the in tank mods? (Fuel system)
I bucked against good advice for a year before realizing the importance of being able to communicate with my truck..
Buying AE was the best money i spent on my truck... (and i get to use it for customers trucks too!)
The 370$ spent on the ford bundle will pay for itself after the 3rd or 4th time you plug in to your truck... (80-120$ or so each time a dealer plugs in)
Well I have got one of those 'improved' CPS sensor from International. Luckily I have a dealer that is about 3-4 miles away. They had them for sale for 36 bucks out the door. I am going to put it in this afternoon and see how this one works out. It is a really dark grey, not black but it is the same part number {1876736C91}. Hope this does the trick although I did pull the valve covers off yesterday and had the two UVCH connectors slightly unplugged, very similiar to when I did the fifty cent mod.
Well only time will tell. I installed the new cps and it definitely made the idle sound different as it doesn't rise and fall. That was only ever so slightly but still audible..
Well it didnt take it long to come back up. Drove it almost two days without a hiccup. Last night it started right up and I made the comment " hear how nice that truck sounds" then put it in reverse and out of nowhere she just died{replace foot in mouth}. Started right back up but had that lopey, light romping at idle but cleared right up after about 5-10 seconds.
So from what I have been reading IPR is next on the replacement list.It would not suprise me that this is the original with over a quarter million mile but God knows how many hours. The only time the truck acts up is warm and out of no where. No cel. Oil is semi fresh and now has around 1900mi on it.
