Hey,
I'm looking for a good electronic ignition conversion kit to buy, but there are so many and the prices range from $75-$200 and I can't tell if the more expensive ones really are better. I've looked a bit through past posts about which brand/model is best, but I haven't been able to find a post that is relative for me.

But also the PerTronix Ignitor III (around $150)
I have a 1970 F100 302 v8 and I need to know if I have a single point distributor or dual point non vac. Honestly I do not know.
Your input would be much appreciated.
I have the Pertronix I in all of my older vehicles and have not had a failure. My 68 Mustang's is from 1992! A Pertronix III is nice but do you really need all the bells and whistles? Your call.
Single vs dual point dizzy.. remove the distributor cap and look.

Hey, Thanks! I don't know that I do need all the bells and whistles. It's the original motor and all. I would look and see, but it's at the shop still waiting for the new gas tank. I'll look more closely at the PerTronix I.
Thanks! Being that it's still in the shop I was gonna have the mechanic working on it put it in. My understanding it's about a 15-30 minute job. I'm only slightly auto smart, I do better when I can see step by step instructions and or have done it before. Thanks again!

We all started somewhere. Ask your mech if you can watch him install it... but there really is no substitute than to "learn by doing".
I started out as a shop helper.. just deconstructing and reassembling cars and trucks, bagging and tagging, and learning how they are put together. Pretty soon it was disassembling engines.... it snowballs from there.
he seems like a nice enough guy that he just might let me take a look at the work being done.
after ordering my pertronix conversion kit the: "PerTronix 40011 Flame-Thrower 40,000 Volt 1.5 ohm Coil" kept popping up. Is that something I need or need to replace with the new electronic ignition kit?
It says "For use with inductive ignition systems" and in the instructions for the new kit it also suggests using supression or carbon core type spark plug wires.
I just would like to make sure I have all the essentials for install.
I'm not certain of these numbers, when I got mine years back, it was like 1 2 & 3. I have no idea on all the newer models.
You can use a hotter coil, but yoiu don't need to drop a lot of bucks on one. Remember we have 40+ year old engines to fire. The Petronix itself is a big upgrade.
Here is what I went for:
PerTronix I 1281 Conversion Kit ($72 inc shipping)
PerTronix 40011 Ignition Coil ($30 inc shipping)
Accel 5040k Spark Plug Wires ($50 inc shipping)
NGK wr5ix Iridium Spark Plugs ($52 inc shipping)
I have a feeling I might need a couple new smaller parts for the install; someone mentioned a TFI Module, Stator and Cap. Anyone have insight into this?
The TFI module is amother method of acheiving electronic ignition, not needed if you have pertronix. Depending on the condition of them you may want to replace the rotor & cap.
I have a question that goes along with this. If you uprade to the Flame Thrower coil I suppose you can bypass the factory resister wire?
I'll have to have a look at the rotor and cap when I get the truck back. I did read that once I have the PerTronix gear in place I can remove/by pass the balast resistor. Again, I'm not mechanically savvy, it's just what I've been reading.
Eh. Not too bad. Considering I shopped around and saved myself $90+ dollars on part prices and shipping, I'm pretty happy with it. That and the only thing new she has ever seen is a battery, hoses and owners. d:
