I'm rebuilding my carburator this week end. It's marked Ford, no #s but NAPA got me a rebuild kit for it. It's on my flat head
v-8. My problem is two of the screws (out of 5) are stripped' They are the ones by the float body. Can I put Lok tite on them .Will they hold??? I have the carb sitting in the cleaning solution tonite. Can I maybe tap them?? Any suggestions
Thats a common problem. Use JB Weld, drill and tap. Be very careful not to split the bowl.
Not much torque involved to seal but be sure the bowl and air horn faces are smooth and fit flush. Sounds like a prior owner over tightened and may have distorted the bowl.
Use some 220 grit, lay on a pane of glass and gently true up the surfaces. Finish with 400-440 grit.
BTW, there should be some ID on the side of the bowl such as 8BA, 59, ECG, etc. THAT is the ID.
Within certain years parts are interchangable and that carb is very common. It is part of the Ford 94 series aka the Holley 2100/2110.
Produced from 1938-57 on Fords and into the 70's aftermarket.
Thanks for the info. I'll head back to napa. It was running decent but I sucked the tank dry and it would never stay running after that. So between sucking the dirt out of the tank and these two stripped screws and old age it did the old carb in.
