Thanks for the advice Sammie. My wife has those small hands you recommended, and she's always willing to help out on any of the vehicles when needed. I have the Cherry Bomb cat back on there now,(sounds good), I'll let you know how it sounds with the Banks installed.

Question: Since the extractor is case hardened and splintered so the self centering bit would have no chance, what's next? Figured I will continue to step drill the remainder and resort to helicoils if that does not go well.
Awesome posts Sammie. Great reflection as my process also, thanks Russ
Rusty

If you read my post you saw that my biggest mistake was using a spiral easy out, I had to drill it out with my power dremel using diamond head burr bits to get a center hole all the way through easy out, then switched to Tungsten Carbide boring bits, which are labeled for grinding not drilling. Use the burr bits to make the through hole but once you get through the center the Tungsten are much cheaper are work well to "grout out" the broken easy out.

If you need part numbers on these let me know and I will dig them up for you.

I've welded nuts to broken off easy outs with good luck before.

But than again, I welded nuts to all the studs that I had break below the heads surface and for them out. But sometimes have to tighten it first to loosen it.

I welded the nuts, spayed with lube, tapped with a hammer and wiggled tight, loosen, tight loosen untell they came out.

You must hold your mouth just the "right way" because you seem to have the best luck with that welder. Or well maybe it's just that you really know what your doing...

I've been wrenching on stuff as long as I can remember. At least since 10-12 years old. But back than it was lawn mowers, bikes, and toys. Lol

but after so long stuff just comes as second nature.

Well, I'm back at it again. A friend asked if I'd help him with his leaking manifolds and for some reason I said yes. What was I thinking? After I finished my own I had agreed to help my brother as well. By the time I get to his, I'll have some good experience. My friend just wants to do the passenger side. Driver's side isn't leaking yet and he needs the truck urgently for wood hauling. His first thought was to take it to.a shop. They told him they'd have to pull the head. Another shop even suggested just replacing the engine because "it already has almost 200k miles on it". Unbelievable! I told my friend not to worry. Couple hundred bucks and he'll be on his way. Now I only hope I wasn't lying to him.
