Now when i try to start it, i get a fairly loud "clunk" if i spray starting fluid in the carb. Not really a metallic sound, not sure how to explain it. Seems like its trying to start or something. I have a mechanic coming out sometime this week to look at it. Hopefully it wont be anything major.
I need a little help. I am using a bypass type fuel regulator to go from the fuel pump to the carb. I think the reg may be backwards so i need someone to id which side is the input and which is the output. I took it apart and took pictures.
Worked on it a lot today. Fixed a no-spark issue but still unsure of the fuel problem (see previous post). Tried to start again and got a few pops like it was trying. Got a few puffs of smoke out of the right side somewhere so im having a friend come out and help. Hope everything goes well.
I'm learning a lot from this project since it's my first one. I forgot to add grounds between the engine and frame, which is causing most of my problems. Tomorrow i will find out if the grounds were the only problems. The car show is next Saturday and this truck is going, running or not.
Grounds were definitely the problem. Installed a ground from starter to frame and now the starter turns about 5x faster. Tomorrow i will find out if it will start now. In thinking that the MSD box wasnt getting enough power while starting because of this.
Installed a larger ground cable, moved the battery from the driver to passenger side, and cleaned up my ground connections. This all increased my cranking voltage so i get a nice big spark while starting. Lets hope it starts now.
It runs now. Turns out the timing mark on the balancer had moved so it was timed a bit too far advanced. After messing with it a bit i got it to idle around 800 and has pretty good throttle response. Still needs some tuning though. Next on the list is getting the brakes bled and hooking up the flywheel to the converter so i can see if it drives nice. Also got some new parts like headlight reflectors and a hood prop so i can stop tearing up my paint. Its getting closer and closer to being done.
Haven't had much time but getting a little more done. Got all the coolant lines hooked up including the trans lines. Just need to make a coolant reservior. Also got the flywheel bolted to the torque converter. Plan on bleeding the brakes once i get some time.
