hi all, i just purchased a plastic gas tank, and i am ready to replace it, could anyone give me some pointers on this job? 1990 f150 300 at. front tank.........thanks have a great one!!
Wow! I have never heard of a plastic tank for a Ford truck. Awsome! No big deal, just like changing a steel one. My biggest suggestion is to be very careful with the sending unit. They are very fragile and if you are not getting a new one than be cautious. Especially when it comes to moving around the line. The wrong move and you can easily break it and will have to get one anyway.
My '95 F150's front tank is plastic, the rear tank is metal. Always struck me a weird. Wished the rear had been plastic too as rust made it start to leak.

>it had me fooled for a while).
If I were you, I would remove that shield. That is where they rust, because everything ie(gravel, dirt)gets caught between the shield, and the tank. All you need for protection from rocks, is hang a mud flap in front of the tank. It will save you from replacing the tank in the future.
I agree, that plastic shield is one big rust trap for sure. If you never off road then get rid of her but like the last post said a mud flap of some sort will work and if you decide to leave it on just remember to wash underneath lots to remove all the crap especially in winter time.
And yes, I wish they did make plastic tanks for them! But the sending units would still rot away.
