Easy Question

Easy question for someone. Our farm has several F600s and a F700.
73 blue, 74 red, 76 purple, 77 white, 78 orange, different style, and a black 76 F700. What is the difference between a F700 and a F7000? I thought it was diesel but the 78 is a diesel F600. Then I thought number of axles but a F7000 we looked at had a single rear axle. They are all dumps. Always looking for old dump trucks for corn and hay. Sit in the weeds for 11 months and get the **** beat out of them for 1 month. Off road under a full load plus, getting dragged through the mud.

Opening up a new field in a Custom Cab 77 F600. I had to pass a road closed sign with a state cop standing there. He said it was quite a truck and stood there with his mouth open. I don't know if the bungee cord holding the hood down was not DOT approved or it was the pry bar to open the door. I told him it was a classic and drove on. The chopper cuts 8 rows at a time.

You are correct that the F7000 designated a diesel engine over a gas engine F700.

However, later years they did away with the single alpha and four numeral designation as diesels became the normal rather than the occasional option.

So yes, you could have a gas or diesel designated F600, 700 or 800 depending upon the year. But if you had a F6000, 7000 or 8000 then you would know that it came from the factory as a diesel truck.

Thanks
I guess the switch makes it confusing. The newest truck we have is a 1982 tri-axle. These trucks see very hard duty bouncing through corn fields. I have been driving for over 40 years and just recently stopped hitting my head on where the headliner would be at least once a year.

They are defiantly tough. I think many times these older medium duty trucks were overbuilt because the factory figured that they were going to spend at least part of there life overloaded.
