I was wondering if I bought a Digital Message center, click here for a picture, from an individual (came out of a '99 Explorer) would I be able to put it into my truck? '98 Explorer XLT
He's saying its a basic swap out, but I wanted to get the advice of the experts here @ FTE. In place of the message center, I just have the two open comparments, which are basically useless.
I'm not interested in rewiring anything, I want it to be a basic plug and play type of thing. (Doesn't everyone!! )
Well if your not interested in wiring anything then don't but it. There are no pre-exisitng wires under your console. You would have to wire every single sensor for the computer. You could have a dealer do it for you but it would cost you about $500. Not worth the money IMO.
Anything is possible. But do you have the patience?? If you do, plan on at least 10 hours of studying the schematics, 2-3 hours on getting the wires together, and another 8-10 hours splicing and wiring things up. Also, you need to get various sensors for different areas such as washer fluid level and oil level sensors. So in total, it'll take ya at least 20 hours to get if the way it is intended.
So IMHO, totally not worth it. It's better just trading it in for an Eddie Bauer or Limited.
Well, since I have NO patience or basic knowledge of the internal workings of my truck, I think I'll just live without it. I figured it wasn't simple, just glad I have you all to help me out!
