2001 F250 V10- Coming up on next oil change at 12,000Miles. I am doing a week of towing at end of month- Should I switch over to Mobil 1?? Will it be better overall for the engine and once I make the switch, do I have to stay with that type for the remainder of the time I own the truck?
I use Havoline 10w-30 syn in mine and it seems to do good.after my truck would sit for 2 weeks i would get a little slap at startup, and now it never does it.It is more expensive, i have never heard any thing bad about switching back and forth, in fact the rep at the oil change said it wont hurt anything.I believe that was started a long time ago when it would have made a difference.
I have been using Mobil 1 in my vehicles for 7+ years and have been happy My 1997 Taurus SHO has over 90000 mi and the oil after 3000mi is still a light carmel color, put nearly 100000 miles on my 1997 F150 4.6L and it never used a drop (I have heard that is unusual for that type of use/abuse on that motor I pull a 7000lb trailer everywhere). I traded it on a 1999 F250 (used) & will continue to run synthetic oil! I got started when a buddy of mine drowned his 1988 Chevy Baretta and after pulling the engine apart to evaluate the damage it still had the original honing marks (123532mi when it died) it is amazing how water can bend metal
