So my drivers side console light wasnt working when i bought my Excursion. So i changed the light so see if that was it but nope still nothing. Checked for power and was getting nothing. Then pushed the button and it just pushed all the way threw. The whole button had fallen apart. I Pulled down the console and looked at to see if i could rebuild the button but it had melted part of it. So i figured i would just buy a new switch from the dealer only to find out after searching the internet that they dont just sell the switch but you have to buy the whole console. That isnt happening. With switch in had went to radio shack and found a replacement switch.
Bad switch
The new switch
part number
this is part of the old switch you will need to grind it down because you will be putting it back in upside down. You can grind it to about the same size as the ring that holds it into the console
This is the red nub thats on the tip of the switch. It needs the sides ground down to fit into the black push buttons that rest on the clear lens cover.
Ground down top of button. You will have to take a little off the top to make it line up right. If you take off to much you can put some tape into the black button part. But be careful.
The switch together
I put the white plastic part on upside down from how it would normally sit and you can just thread it down onto the button it fit perfect and when its tightened all the way down its nice and snug.
You then solder the wires onto the switch. Center to center and the outsides to the outsides. Just make sure to get the center wire on the center the outside ones dont matter what order.
switches in
switch with black button on top.
Other side with switches. pleanty of clearance
all done, try your switches it may take some fine tuning to get them to work correctly. My driver side works great the passenger side sticks a little bit sometimes.
I now have my light on when i open the door and can turn it on when i need it.
Nicely done............ I have been trying to upgrade my map lights to LED to reduce the heat and improve brightness. The hardest part was getting the old bulb out of the 579 twistlock base. Lots of conficting info out there. I've gotten some leds to work, I just need to get some a little bigger and brighter now.
Thanks, you could add a couple of 27 watt led reverse lights. These replace my 10 watters, from tuff leds for about $60.00 a set on amazon!orums/picture.php?albumid=19526&pictureid=129135[/IMG]
