cannot figure this truck out ,it has been getting 14 miles to gallon ever since i have had it ,that is normal driving , now i put fuel in her today an it started getting 18.5 mpg on the way home drove the same old route an same speed , i think something is wrong , cant figure it out maybe staying stuck in regen i would i know.
Wish I could say the same!! I just got through driving 1240 miles pulling my 5er, for the most part of the trip I averaged 5.4MPG the best I got was 8.7 I for sure think something is wrong with my Ford. My 5er weighs 11,400.
would like to add something else to my other post. I have always owned Ford truck's, have had fairly decent fuel millage with them, up until I bought my 2011 F-250 King Ranch 3.55 gears, with 25,000 miles. I love the truck but the fuel millage SUCKS. I pull a 2009 Cameo 5th Wheel, dry weight is 11,400. I drive 65 MPH when towing. Got to be something I need to do to improve my 5.4 and at best loaded 8.7 and highway use empty 11.8. Any suggestions.

Your highway use mileage empty is only 11.8? Is that calculated or based on what the truck's MPG gage says? My 2012 F-350 with 3.55 gears gets over 17 MPG at 80 MPH. Every day average is 16 due to city driving. But this will go up about 1 MPG once we move away from winter fuel here.
With fuel mileage there are too many variables. Here are some things to take in consideration. Summer vs. winter (3-4 mile difference) even cool mornings to warm afternoon. Headwind vs. tail wind. Best fuel mileage I have gotten so far is 18.5 hwy in the winter.
I have not added any fuel additives to this point. As far as fuel goes I have tried Chevron and it was the worst 5.4 MPG, Pilot, Flying J, Loves any 3 of these averaged at best 8.7 and for the most part of the 1200 mile trip so far has been 7.6. will not return home back to Texas until November.
As Rob says, there are quite a few variables. On a 500 mile trip (running 65 mph) from OK to TX , I got only 14.8 mpg but that was into a steady 20 mph head wind. Was blowin' like stink in the gusts!!. Only load I had on the truck was my 800 Lb Harley in the bed.
On the other hand, I got right at 20.5 mpg back and forth to the Bay (100 mile round trip) when there was no breeze, cool morning, and very flat terrain. I was running 70 mph then.
I hooked up the TT (Airstream at maybe 8,000 lb) and got 13.8 on a 350 mile round trip at 65 mph driving I10 west and then east.... All that is pretty flat as well.
All I can say is my '11 F350 6.7L beats my 7.3L EX on mpg all the time. (And the 7.3 is running tunes, exhaust, etc.)

I get 19-20 out of my 2012 F-250 FX4 with 3.55 gears and towing my 34 foot Carriage Cameo I get 15-16. 5er weight is about 13,200lbs.
I finally pulled our 5verlast weekend for the first time with our 2012 F-350 3:73 drw and I was surprised to get 13.6. The camper is roughly 12000lbs. But that is what the dash reads. When I am empty I only get 14.5. I would assume my milage would drop a lot more with the camper hooked up. We are taking a long trip this summer and I will be able to do some hand calculations then.

Did you reset the mpg-ometer prior to towing the 5er, or did the mpg-ometer just gradually go down to 13.6 from it's previous reading?
On a recent 1800 mile trip with a cab over camper I only got 11 MPG. I have never really been able to do a good job of checking it empty because of relatively short trips and up and down the hill to my house. The dash meter will go as high as 16.5 for a while but go down after running around in town and going up and down my hill.
