I am swapping a 5.0/e40d from a 93 f150 4x4 into a 65 f100 4x4. I plan on pulling the efi from the motor and going with carb setup. Question is can I run the e40d with no electronics hooked up or do I need to look for a different trans?
It would probably be easier to just put in a C6 or AOD of you need over drive. At a minimum you still need the computer to run the trans and would have to fab a TPS on to the carburetor. There are stand alone computers to run the trans, not sure what all would be need for those though
Yes you need the EFI computer to use that transmission, but it's a very good combo so if you just don't like the look of the EFI intake under the hood of your classic truck then maybe use a carb style EFI intake with the stock electronics so that you end up with something that looks like this more or less. The pic below is of a complete Mass-flo system that includes the wiring harness, aftermarket fuel rails, intake and throttlebody so yours will actually be a little cleaner with the stock fuel rails because the crossover is behind the motor not in front.
Still need some electronics. But search this forum for people who gave used the bauman controller.
The e4od is a truck trans. The aod is tempermental trans. By that I mean, the heavier the vehicle, the less hp it can handle. I love the trans, but I've blown up about 10 "learning my lesson". You need to respect it. Like a woman.
When in OD you gotta feather the throttle. Pull it into D manually, then you can hammer it all day.
