My manual transmission F350 diesel shudders strongly when the clutch is engaged in reverse or in 1st gear under load. The shudder only happens when the truck is fully warmed up, but does not happen in 4 wheel drive. I have replaced the clutch, slave cylinder and flywheel, but the shudder only slightly lessened, if at all. Any hints would be greatly appreciated.
It is a 1990. I cannot say of the top of my head what kind of linkage it is. I did replace the split disc flywheel (slip disc?) with a solid disc, mostly because the former was too expensive (and therefore put in the larger clutch too).
It must be hydraulic in '90. If it was mechanical, I'd say look at the body mounts.
Now, it sounds like oil contamination in the clutch, possibly from a leaking input seal in the transmission. Do you have transmission oil coming out of the bellhousing?
It is hydraulic, as it has got a master cylinder and slave cylinder in the linkage. I haven't seen any oil, but I will crawl under tomorrow and have a closer look. Thanks.
