I've decided to install new rear shocks on my F250- I'd like to stiffen up the rear a bit since we are going to upgrade to a 5th wheel- I live in NJ- Where is the best place to purchase the new shocks? I am going to go with the Ranchos or Bilsteins.
Should I just buy then and give to local mechanic or try and install myself?
Installing shocks is pretty easy. I'd give the bolts a shot of penetrating oil for a couple days before starting just to make sure everything comes apart OK.
What is your intention with the stiffer shocks? Is it just to keep the bounce down with the added weight of the 5th wheel, or are you wanting to not let the back sag as much. If you want to eliminate the sag, stiffer shocks aren't going to help much, if at all. For that, a set of overload springs might be the way to go.
