OK, dont blast me for possibly missing a thread, but I need some opinions quickly. I thought I bought some bad gas, but my 2000 F-150 is still running horribly. I took it to autozone and had them pull the code. They told me that coil number 6 is needing to be replaced. Anyone have any clue as to anything else that might be throwing that code? Any simple fixes that might help me not to spend 60 bucks on a new coil pack. Any responses would be greatly appreciated, and go ahead, you can blast me for possibly posting an old thread.
Thanks for replying JB........I will be under the hood first thing Friday, so I already had planned on switching coils and checking it that way. I havent pressure washed recently, but after having the hood up, it sure does need it. I figured if the ecu said it, it would be pretty much the coil, but ya never know. Thanks again.
I'm having to replace some coilpacks in my EXPO....I got a price of $22 ea from the salvage yard from a 17k mile truck....might want to look into getting some from your local salvage yards....just check the milage of the vehicle your getting them out of.
LKQ is a great source for used parts as well. They are nationwide and sell to insurance companies. They also tell you the milage on any part you buy. I bought a set of "Edge" rims and tires for $200.00 off of a 40k wrecked 2002 edge
I have noticed a lot of disscussion about the coil packs on these ford motors, but what I am waiting for is the way to diagnose them. I have a 4.2 liter V 6 and I think the coil pack is going bad. And I put this out there on the 4.2 liter site, so I will leave it here, what is the chance that the heated oxygen sensor ( HO2S ) is bad and is causing problems, that could be misconstrued as a coil pack issue?? Just thought Id ask.
my engine was running rough from time to time at start up but if you shut it off and restarted it it would smooth out. But last night I stepped on the gas to kick in the passing gear and the engine fell on its face like it lost a cylinder I wonder if this is a coil pack problem or fuel injection .truck will travel up to driving speed just fine but has lost its backbone to pull hard on demand .
Well, I apologize for being gone so long.It turned out that it was, indeed, the coil.........number 6, to be exact.Replacement was cake, and the part was less than my warranty deductible. Thanks for all the replies though, this site is awesome!! Keep it up, and I look forward to returning the favor.
