I'm sure it was more in the range of 28ish, it was a tad under the 30 mark. Just the factory gauge, so it's just numbered at 10-20-30 and red haha.
How could I check the ebp sensor and what is it?
On the 05, look just under drivers side valve cover about halfway back, you will see a sensor that is hooked to a small pipe/tube that runs frontward and goes into the exhaust manifold. Sometimes this tube gets clogged with soot so the sensor doesn't get a good rreading. On the 05 the boost is figured partly or wholly by this. My actual sensor went out. On 03-04 models its on the thermostat housing but still goes to the same spot on manifold. Im on my phone so i can't provide a pic but it's easy to see if your looking for it, otherwise you probably wouldn't notice it. They can sure make your truck smoke and run like a dog. One easy way to check if you have a scanguage or similar check readings koeo on map, ebp and one other, i think baro, they should all be about the same. If you click on my profile and go thru my posts i started a thread when mine went out, should have all the info there.
Alright, I'll give that a check tomorrow when I get off work since its already dark. I just drove the truck for 50 miles or so, and everything seems.. Normal. Just a little black smoke but not anymore than what it was like before. Is it possible for the ebp sensor to unclog itself? Just trying to understand why it would go from a huge amount of black an white smoke and sounding like its almost going to die and then I let it sit for a day and it runs perfectly fine.
I took a few pictures before I started her up at some spots that were just covered in grease, not sure if that's troubling or not. Also, when I did start it up I felt around to see if I could feel any leaks, and didn't feel any. I guess it's not possible to post pictures from a phone?
But this was my reason. The main shaft completely broke and the exhaust turbine was bouncing around. I had it running for about 15 mins getting off the istate,, and it pumped 1 1/2 gallons outta my truck. My pic of the smoke was straight oil. Here's the turbo
I can do pics from my phone but im at work so that limits me. On my ebp sensor it caused me to have no boost even at wot then full boost just like that, I blew a cac boot then and thought that was the issue, put boot back on and took my 30 mile drive home without issue. The next day, truck ran fine for about 5 miles then rough eunning/smoke again. Rechecked my boot looking for cracks/loose/etc.. and came up good. That's when someone pointed me to the ebp and sure enough that fixed me up. May not be your issue but it sure is something you could check off the list. Also you can unplug the vgt (plug on top of turbo) and see what it does.
Definitely wouldn't hurt to check, even though I havnt had a problem with no boost at WOT, it always seems to be right at the same spot. How exactly do you "check" the sensor? Do you pull it out and look at it or what?
From what's going on and the fact that its driving perfectly fine now, is turbo failure something to rule out?
The issue I documented,,, was a total turbo failure. When mine broke,, I could hear the screeching of the turbine on the housing for a couple mins until it wedged itself. I had to put it in 4low just to get it up vail pass cause of the power loss. Mine is a manual trans tho. It literally fogged both sides of the interstate up and the fire dept showed up.
If its running perfectly,,, then you are experiencing the infamous "can not duplicate" dilemma. I try and not throw money at mine until I definitely have a prob. No need to pitch parts at it. When it needs parts,,, it'll let you know. Lol. We will all still be here when it isn't running perfectly.
Yeah I know what you mean, it's just kind of sketchy driving, especially cause most of the time I tend to be outside of town and the thought of being stranded isn't that great. Hopefully everything will stay running strong until I start diesel mechanic school in the fall that way I can do all my bulletproofing and learn at the same time. I think if anything ill take it to a mechanic as soon as I can and have it looked over just for piece of mind. Tomorrow I'm gonna try and check out the ebp sensor and maybe post some of the pictures I took to see if that will help pinpoint a problem.
A scanguage or comparable monitor is crucial, it has helped me numerous times plus I always know how healthy or not my truck is. Also if you have an android phone or tablet, for 5 bucks you can get the torque app to do the same thing. Without having some way of obtaining parameters, your basically just guessing.
I've been wanting to get an edge insight cts for a while now, but I honestly just can't afford it right now, especially now that I may have to put a new turbo in. Once I get this whole issue sorted out I think I'll start putting back the pennies I make and just get one. My trucks coming up on 165k and I really just need to get it haha.
