Just did this exact thing. I'm happy...

Honestly, I think ANYTHING is better than the stock setup, I don't think I could lock my brakes up (besides ABS) on my stock Ex on anything other than dirt. When I went to cheapy Ebay rotors all around and the Hawk LTS pads, burned them in well, I was impressed for sure.

I need to do my brakes again and want something much better than stock. Have tried both advance auto brand pads gold and silver with stock rotors and not been impressed. The gold pads lasted about 10k miles and the silver are close to that now.

Trying to determine if upgrade pads and stock rotors or upgrade both. What are your opinions on upgrading the pads vs pads and rotors? Thanks...

When I do it again, it is going to be Ebay rotors and Hawk LTS. (Unless I can get some slotted rotors for a similar price as stock replacement.)

I purchased a kit from Ebay containing Callahan brand with drilled and slotted front and rear rotors and ceramic pads for both. It cost less than purchasing just front rotors and pads from my local O'Reilly store.
8K on then and very happy. The new set up improved braking and no dust to speak of ether.

I'd only ever purchase rotors that are cast with the holes (and AFIAK nobody makes them for an Excursion/F-SD). I wouldn't touch drilled and slotted - they will eventually crack and won't last as long. On something as large and heavy as the Excursion I don't want to take any chances. Get good blank rotors and high quality ceramic pads and you should be good to go.

many, many members here including me are running cryo treated power slot rotors. huge improvement in braking power and no more warped rotor feeling. alot of these members tow heavy also with NO issues. best rotors for the money.

i'm going on 15k miles on mine and they look great, no hot spots and no warped feeling. this is with heavy braking daily with many high speed stops.

I won't dispute that and those aren't extremely deep slots either. To me more issues come from the drilled rotors than anything else. I see people put them on their cars/trucks and wonder why they only get a few thousand miles out of them.

you mentioned slots though, thought i should clarify.

that said we've been running drilled rotors on our chrysler 300C for over a year (8k) and no issues yet. not to say that they cant/wont crack..but so far so good with great stopping power over stock rotors on that car.

looking at replacing the front stuff...searching napa brings up a "premium" and an "ultra premium" rotor....price difference is pretty staggering.

premium $66 NAPA AUTO PARTS

ultra $114 (wtfruit) NAPA AUTO PARTS

also the entire hub assembly with regular premium rotor seems to be only a few bucks more? although the picture doesnt appear this is for a 4x4 truck?

NAPA AUTO PARTS

I love the feel of my new Hawk LTS'. I'm still on my original rotors with 190K miles and was stopping smoothly prior to replacing the pads.. My tech said they were still in tolerance to dress down lightly, even though I had already purchased new ones. I put them in storage for future use.
