Question Will paint cause intake leak?

I just got a '69 cast iron 4V intake for my 351w off of Ebay for a birthday present. It had been freshly hot-tanked and was in bare cast iron when I received it, and it hadn't started to rust. So, I cleaned it up and proceeded to paint it, but rather than tape over every little surface and cut tape away for all the nooks and crannies, I just laid it down and sprayed it. In order to get good coverage I also wound up painting the gasket mating surfaces in the process. They are smooth and clean, just painted blue. Do I need to sand this paint off before I install the intake? Will it cause a leak? Thanks a lot for any help. -J.Bird OH, ps, sorry about the newbiefied question.

Just get some acetone and remove the paint. Sanding will leave bits of grit everywhere. The last thing you want to suck in your intake is silicon carbine or aluminum oxide bits. I would clean the intake out with soapy water and blow it dry. If you don't have an air compressor a shop vac works well with the hoses turned around.

If that doesnt work, try using a piece of copper tubing flattend out and grinded down like a razor. The copper is softer than the cast iron and won't scratch up your new intake. Sandpaper is a bad idea, but kudos on painting it to keep out the rust. But this is a noobie answer to a noobie question...

Let me mention that paint makes for a great sealer for coolant hoses. The paint will glue the hoses on so well that you'll have to cut them off when it is time to replace them!
