M5OD hard shift into 1st and 2nd and whirring noise
I have a 1996 bronco with a 302 and the M5OD. It has about 86000 miles on it with the orginal clutch. I bought the truck and it shifted into every gear smoothly. But when i was at a stop light and had the clutch out and had to push it in quickly and shift into first when the light turned it took some firm pressure on the shifter to get it into gear. After driving it for about 2000-3000 miles i noticed the problem at stop lights got worse. Now it takes 2 or 3 stiff pushes to get it into gear. More than that, today i was driving in the rain and i gave it some gas and the wheels started to spin so i tried to shift into 2nd real fast to keep the wheels turning but when i tried to shift i couldnt get it into 2nd until the clutch had been down for about 20 seconds. What i was wondering was if anyone else has expereinced this problem and if anyone knows what the problem is. my hydraulic resavoir is full and i have changed the tranny fluid recently. Do i need tranny work? Or is it something else. Also what is the aproximate cost for a tranny rebuild. Another problem i have noticed is a metalic whirring noise when i am in 2nd and 3rd or downshifting into thoes 2 gears. I have noticed this just recently and it keeps getting worse. My fluid is full and i dont know what else to do. I think its my syncros but im not shure. If anybody knows what im talking about i would greatly appericate any feed back and any estimats on the cost of repair.

Maintenance is much cheaper than repair, so find out what a local transmission or tune-up shop would charge to change the fluid. Also, see if your local Ford dealer's service advisors will tell you if they have a lot of those come in with that problem, and what it usually is.
It sounds like a clutch hydraulic system problem, but it could be inside the transmission.
