Snow plow do-able for '01 F-150 4x4 off road, tow pkg?

Advisable: no

IFS front ends are not made for holding up a plow. Get ready to go through front end parts if you use a plow on a regular basis. Got a buddy that bought a 2001 GMC for plowing for money and it sat in the shop this spring to a tune of a couple grand.

Get an old straight axel truck that you don't mind tearing up. No truck like yours was designed for plow duty.

hey i got a 95 250 with the ifs front end and i plow lots of snow and never had any problems.you will be ok with it.does you truck have the snow plow package?mine does.but as far as the front end and the ifs i have never had any problems i run a 8 foot fisher snow plow.As far as the other guys 2001 gmc what can i say fords are better trucks for plowing all the way.

 

A '95 F250 (and F150's for that matter) has a TTB (twin traction beam) front suspension, not IFS like in the '97 & up F150's.

 

The long and the short of it is, NO!

 

Of coarse they have IFS...IFS is Independent Front Suspension. The new truck just have a different kind of IFS.

I know the TTB is an independent suspension. What I was trying to get across was the difference between the two systems. Calling the TTB suspension IFS is kinda like calling a Ford limited slip diff a "posi". Yes, it pretty much means the same thing, but it's not really the correct terminology.

 

97-98 F250 LD have the same suspension design as the 97 F150.
The 99 and up SD's (250's and 350's) have straight axles with leaf springs.
