I'm about to order some new carpet.
I've remove the behind the seat tank from my cab. I'm concerned that the replacement carpeting will end before the cab wall because of the missing tank. I want it to go all the way to the rear of the cab. So... can I buy 73 -79 carpet to fit a 67? As I understand it, the only difference is the length of the cab in the rear area. What do you think? It would also make it easier to get the carpet in cut pile which is what I want.
Thanks!
The 73-9 carpet will fit, Larry. What you need to know for ordering is whether you have a low trans tunnel or a high one. The taller tunnel was used mainly on four speed and 4x4 trucks. You'll be able to tell if you have one as soon as you pull the mat out as there is a sheet metal piece screwed to the floorpan if it's a tall tunnel.
Just an update to confirm Mike's assessment.
I ordered 74 regular cab carpet. It fits very well. The backside has a couple extra inches past the cab even without the tank.
Perfect!
Before I dropped new carpet kit in, I also carpeted back wall up to the window with same color carpet bought from Wal-mart. You can buy a roll of it for 10 bucks in the auto aisle. Tucked into the door seal on the sides looks very good, and adds a little sound deadener. I had already taken in-cab tank out. Use spray adhesive, then trim floor carpet up to back wall.
larry,
the carpet kit for the '74 is a direct lay in carpet kit, and was long enough to cover the floor under the old tank?
how was the pass to driv door openings and firewall fit?
my '69 is a short hump too, so this is interesting.
did you use anything under the carpet for insulation?
after i patch the small holes under my feet, im thinkin of doin a thin layer line-x.

yes, there is actually a couple inches extra in the rear and rolls up the back unless you trim it.

I used the shiny aluminum water heater insulation along with the insulation that came on the new carpet. Because of the extra padding, there is a small buckle in the center of the firewall in the carpet. I'm going to add some more insulation just in the center of the firewall to eliminate the buckle. But you could leave it be since it's very minor. ALL other areas fit absolutely perfectly!
