Disabling autolock

I have a 1999 Explorer XLS (which includes remote key chain entry). The doors are always locking automatically, which is a big pain in the butt. My wife is forever locking herself out of the car with the kids still inside (they're too young to unlock the doors!).

I have followed the procedure in the owneers manual to disable this function, but it doesn't seem to work.

Any suggestions? (for the car, not the wife...)

Mike

I think there is a thread somewhere in this forum where steve83 suggested taking the key fob apart, and putting a piece of tape over the contacts inside so it would disable the button. Never done it, but sounds easy if you can get it apart.

I always carry a second key in my other pocket. You could always get one of those magnetic key holders that hold on to the inside of the fender wall too. Wouldn't fix the problem but would be a handy solution.

I've always used black eletcrical tape and taped the key to the rear light harness, once you splash mud and road dirt on them, it looks stock and wont fall off like a magnet will....
