I'm a FORD guy to the bone but just bought my first diesel. I'm also from Alberta can . It's a 97 F-350, crewcab, 4x4, srw, 7.3l eng, auto. Two questions for anyone. #1, Fiiled up at the esso for the first time, must have got bad gas as my water in fuel light came on a hour and a half into my trip. My last six previous tanks of gas at a truck stop and no lites at all. I drained the water twice on my trip, light went off each time, filled up with good gas and added stadnyne to the fuel as well. Should I do anymore now that water was in the system?
Question #2
I think the catalitic converter is original, truck has 270,000. km's on it. If I take out the coverter and put in a piece of pipe to replace it, will I do any harm to the truck and will I see any difference in operation other than a louder sounding exhaust?
Thanks in advance for any info, this forum is awesome for us new owners.
I would yank the cat if you can get away with it, mine is gone and most of the people you talk with will say the same thing. I really did not notice any more noise when it left but I did notice a difference in the temp of the exhaust gas. Good luck with the truck and welcome to the forum. duece
I would change the filter if you went thru that much water. I would also make sure I use "FUEL" not gas. That loud ka boom would make you crap your knickers. Keep the stanadyne going thru it to make sure the water is gone.
