351w Install

Any way to install a 351w motor that is complete with upper/lower intake, accesories , distributor, etc into a bronco? Trying to avoid breaking motor down due to fact motor is coming straight from machine shop.

Any suggestions would be awesome.

Thanks.

Take the front clip apart and slide it right into place. It just won't fit with the exhaust on it (atleast long tube headers). With the front clip off you can set it quite level and not have to pick it way up.

How would I attach a hoist to motor? What points on motor can hoist be attached to?

Well I know on my engine that it actually has a cable loop attached to the front of the driver side manifold. What you can do us find 2 long bolts and run one through a chain loop at the front of the driver side and one through a loop at the back of the passenger side.

Do u think the cable loop is strong enough to hold weight of motor using an additional attachment on back pass side head?

This was attached to the front driver side manifold before I swapped to headers. It is one way to connect a hook to your engine hoist.

Your other option would be.

Taking an exhaust bolt - like that. Then running through a chain - like so (just not such an overkill of a chain.)

Then screwing it into

1 of those 3 exhaust bolt locations on the driver side and then

One of the back locations on the passenger side. (I wouldn't recommend the VERY last one because it is an utter pain!

Then your chain should be able to sit in the hook on your engine hoist and TA-DAA!

You can get an engine lift plate that bolts on to the lower intake plenum. So you only have to remover the upper plenum.

you will want the upper plenum off anyway when you install the motor otherwise you wont be able to get to the rear motor/tranny bolts. also take the hood off, just be sure to mark where the hinges sit so you can get it back on correctly.

installing with shortie headers is fine i was able to do this with out issues and my bronco is lifted with 35" tires. just be sure to have 1-2 people to help you. I think getting the torque converter to line up with the flexplate properly is the most time consuming.

what year 5.8 and what year bronco are you dropping this into?

Bronco is a 96 xlt.

Just pulled motor last month to install new freeze plugs, main/front seal, timing chain and oil pan gasket. After I installed for whatever reason engine did not crank at all, completely frozen. The crank would not turn an inch. Crank should have 1/1000 play front to back but does not. It is a shame because engine has 189k but runs like a champ.

Found a new 351w Ford crate motor and will install this weekend.

Later I will pull motor apart to see what the hell went wrong.

you will of course want to move everything over to that motor from you 96. dont forget the star looking deal that sits on the crank behind the pulley.
