replacing rear shocks- easy?
Looks like something I can accomplish myself as long as the nuts and bolts aren't rusted on. I'll use some penetrating oil. Can the shocks be taken out without raising the vehicle on jackstands? Any other tips or words of wisdom would be great.

Yeah, its easy and you should be able to replace the rear shocks without jacking up the rear end. I would recommend replacing the shock with Rancho 9000. They made a big difference in the ride quality on my truck.

Just be careful with the top shock mounts. The nut is an 18mm I believe and it is threaded onto a solid mount which goes into the frame. If you bust it off ....big trouble! I always use a combination wrench on it first just to make sure that the nut is free and I can watch the stud to make sure that it does not turn with the nut. If it does you may have to use a little heat but in my experience it should be ok.

Replacing shocks is easy and this is coming from someone new to doing my own car repair. I would definitely go with putting the truck on jack stands it gives you extra room under the truck, which is nice if you're a big guy like me.

It took me 20 minutes per rear shock. I sprayed them a day before with WD40. Easy. I did not jack the truck up. I had no problem working under the truck. The part that took the time was getting the shock off the top stud. The rubber bushing kept it from coming off easily. My ride: 92 F150 2wd.
