You sprayed gas in for a while as the engine was running???? That is very dangerous as any backfire, which can happen easily on an engine that isn't fully checked out, will cause a fire and potentially severe burns. I saw that happen once and don't want to see it again.

Oh I know, I've seen it too. I made sure I did it while he started it. I used a squirt bottle so I could stand back a lil ways from the carb. We'll get the tanks cleaned and new pumps installed B4 we start it again.

Just an update. We got the fuel pump today, my son installed it in the redone gas tank, and the beast fired right up and is running great. Smoked for a lil while, then stopped smoking. It idles good and is quiet as a 460 can be. He drove it up and down the road probably 8 times. Thanx again to the guys for all the suggestions and help.

Will do. We do have another question tho, I have heard bad and good about changing the tranny fluid and filter after so many years of sitting and so many miles on the truck. What do you think?

I would change it in a heart beat. Do NOT flush it, or back-flush it. But, get the old stuff out. I've had several experiences here. One was my SiL's Jeep, which wouldn't hardly back up due to clutch slippage. I told him to change the fluid as the friction modifiers in the fluid were gone. He took it to two oil change places who said "the tranny will grenade if you do that". It kept slipping and I told him he either does change or rebuilds the tranny. He had it changed and it is working perfectly many thousands of miles later.

Also had a C6 like yours refuse to shift automatically after sitting in a field for years. Changed fluid and ran a can of Sea Foam in it and after 500 miles it was fine.

Change the fluid!
