I need to replace the weatherstrip that is located "in" and up against my rear tailgate window (what the window rubs against when it moves up and down) on my 1982 Full size bronco. I have seen products online for sale, called either "weatherstrip-inner and outer" and also "rear glass run". Can someone tell me which is the right prodcut to buy and also I havent done this before anything tips or tricks I should know about?? What is there know is disentegrating and falling out. Thanks!!
In the tailgate itself there are a total of four pieces that create the weatherstrip/weatherbelt. An inner strip, an outer strip, and a left and right end section. The end pieces are rubber blocks reinforced internally with steel. All four pieces mount near the top of the T-gate around the slot for the window.
I know the four pieces from Ford have individual part numbers for each component. I have not tried to buy these parts elsewhere but I would make sure you are getting all four pieces from whoever you decide to buy from.
The "rear glass run" could possibly be the seal around the top of the window actually mounted in the fibreglass top. Again, I am not certain but definately check with the supplier before you buy.
Someone who has purchased these parts from one of the online resources may have a better insight. No doubt someone has more information. Best of luck.
The 2 rubber strips that runs horizontally along the top edge of the tailgate on either side of the glass are the inside/outside weatherstrip. The glass run is the metal channel that goes vertically in the sides of the tailgate, called the back glass side run. I just bought an outside-weatherstrip for my 84 Bronco from *** Truck ($25), and I'm swapping out the inside strip from my 88 parts Bronco since it's still good.
There's about 10 clips in each strip that fit into slots in the tailgate skin. The new clips just pop into place, the old ones may need some help using pliers. There's also a screw on each end of the outer strip to hold it in place. Easy and simple repair!
