Where is a good place to get parts? I know it needs a water pump. It's been converted to an alternator.

All depends what dad wants to do with it.

 

It depends a lot on what engine is in it. If it's a stock flathead V8 there are numerous places to get parts, I favor going to my local NAPA store first, then Rockauto. If it's a flathead 6 then finding a water pump is a little more of a challenge. There were a couple of discussions here a while back and they're hard to find. You'll probably have to have it rebuilt, Rock Auto does it but you have to send in your water pump to have them rebuild it. I'm sure they send it out so you might be able to save some money by finding someone nearby who rebuilds auto parts.

EDIT: I reread one of your last post, I see F-3. Make sure you read the posts about F-3s and Widow Makers. It's a must.

Yes, it's a F-3 with a Flat Head V8.

 

Stu might step in, he's FTE own wheel guru, he has some suggestions, all fairly hard to find. Best bet would be to find a rear axle out of pre-'73 F-250, it's almost a direct swap, at least that's what has been said. It'll solve three problems, wheels, brakes and gearing.

Do another search for F-250 axle swap, I think you should come up with the information you need.

 

I just swapped the rear axle in my jeep to a rebuilt Ford 8.8. I like direct bolt on axles

 

If a rear end swap is the plan, either a 1/2 ton 9" or 3/4 ton Dana 60, any corresponding truck wheels will work. If the Dana 60 is the choice the only question would be whether stock hub cap use is desired. If so you'd want the early 16" F-2/F-250 wheels having the inner nubs rather than the later ones having outer hub cap nubs. If no hub caps, like in the picture, any 16" F-250 wheel having the 8 x 6.5" pattern works. Stu

 

Here's a real long shot for ya-there is a guy in Cawker City, about 40 miles south of Esbon along highway 24. He collects old vehicles from estate sales, salvage yards, farmers, etc. He had a lot of old trucks of all sizes on his lot the last time I was through there last November. I don't recall seeing a truck with a well service sign on the door but I wasn't looking either. Like I said, it's a long shot but maybe he has seen the truck at some point. I have his business card at work so PM me and I'll send his contact info tomorrow if you'd like to try to catch him.

 

I just did a complete rebuild on the flat six 226ci .I went through Rock Auto for the water pump. They arranged for to send my pump to A-1 Cardone in Harlingen, TX & they rebuilt mine & sent it back. They even included pictures of pump 3 different angle ......Dude
