I as most of you seek mild performance and longevity from our trucks. I received my monthly Diesel Power magazine and this month they installed a Garret GT3877VA turbo and a HPOP from diesel site. The initial baseline mods were as follows:
The testing involved the addition of the garret turbo and the HPOP I mentioned.
I was really disappointed to see the mediocre HP increase with the 3k investment. Unless I am missing something, it (turbo) does not seem like a worthy investment IMO. There was a major plus and that was EGT's were kept @ 1250* during the hammer session on the dyno.
Unless I am missing something, the turbo I have thought about for years, is not such a great investment.......am I way off here?
Sounds like a tune issue. Never heard of Elite Diesel and have no idea what a Stage 1 FICM is. Also, not sure exactly how an upgraded HPOP is going to make any difference when the only change on the fuel system is 155 injectors. I've seen those numbers on a stock fuel system using an SCT, PHP FICM flash, and a Powermax.

They claimed the stock Hpop was to weak to keep up with the injectors
So in conclusion...it seems that increasing the compressor wheel by 3mm as the powermax does is a waste of money, even with a hot tune and 155 injectors. I am glad Diesel Power did the test. Looks like I'll be rebuilding my stock VGT with help from gpopshop and i'll wait for dieselsite to release their wickedwheel II for my application.
They are stock replacemant Turbo's, With Dura Max Compressor wheel's. The Dmax turbo, is the one ford shoulda put on, but they said it was too much money.
Anywho, he mod's the housing (On the stock replacement turbo's.) and put's the D Max compressor wheel in.
I am not sure about the stage 1,2, etc.
A few members have mad turbo's, Dlinzy & Lilpooh are the only teo i can think of for now. I think the guy is way back ordered because he is so busy, and his turbo's have great reviews!
